Speaking Engagements

Speaking Engagements:

I speak regularly nationally and internationally on issues related to my research, publications, and clinical interests. Most recently I highlight findings from my book, “Music for Women (Survivors of Violence)” on how women can use music/music therapy for personal growth and empowerment, and how women survivors can use music to recover from the harm of abuse.

My previous speaking engagements have included general public and professional audiences, small workshops, discussion groups, and large-group keynote presentations in person, online, and in podcasts, including public radio.  These have ranged across such locations as Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, South Africa, and the United States.

A Conversation with Sheldon Kennedy and Sandi Curtis:

This conversation between Sheldon Kennedy and Sandi Curtis (professor of Music Therapy) took place following a screening of Swift Current in Montreal, Canada. The film Swift Current tells the story of Sheldon Kennedy , former NHL hockey player , who was sexually abused by his junior hockey coach. Child abuse, prevention, advocacy and the public health implications  are discussed, with the conversation  moderated by journalist Elysia Bryan-Baynes.
